Bleu de Solaise

A further 80 bleu de solaise leeks went in today, all pricked out into modules weeks ago ready to transplant as space became available. This way there is no need for the old wives tale of root trimming, the pots fit into a hole left by a dibber made from an old spade shaft just nicely. The dibber is pushed in about 9" to give lots of blanched stem and the leeks are just "dropped in".
Despite the all of the rain, including todays down pour, you can see the good order of this clay soil. It drains well, yet is moisture retentive due to lots of organic matter being added. It is too wet to dig really but friable enough to plant.
As an added bonus we found out that our plot is best on site for the second year running but also 3rd best plot in all of Leicester. Kazzi and I are well made up.
