Tomato time

A cherry tomato I recommend you try next year is "Berry" from Marshalls. It is a Japanese bred variety that is shaped just like a strawberry. They are quite prolific and are just oh so sweet. They are in my "Gold Standard" list now.

We have been harvesting tomatoes in ever-increasing amounts since the begining of June and get occasional gluts of fruit that we just cannot munch through. Rather than turning them all into pasata and pasta sauces we convert a few into expensive-to-buy products like "sun dried" tomatoes using the dehydrator. They are then dropped into clean jars and topped up with olive oil. Another of our favourites is Red tomato chutney which is great with cold cuts, pork pie and such like.
